Making H's Baby Food Myself

In an effort to save money, and because I love to cook, I decided to make H's baby food instead of buying it.  So far, it is proving to be super easy and inexpensive.  I have been looking up recipes online and started with acorn squash.  I followed the tutorial on www.seevanessacraft.com and love using the ice cube trays.  I have enough squash in the freezer for probably 10 feedings.
Harper had her first serving last night.  She wasn't super smiley, but she sure didnt turn a bite down:)  This morning I made sweet potatoes and probably have enough of them for 15 feedings.  After we get through these, I am going to make a few green veggies.  Some sites say you can freeze the food for 6-8 months amd some say only 3.  I figure if I get a 3 month supply, I will be doing well.  After all, we only have about 7 months of baby food anyway:(  Slow down time!!

Soccer, Sick, and Snaggles!!

This has been a wild week!  Started work, which I will save for another time, and just had lots going on.  Kevin is rarely home-the grass is our backyard came up to Turner's knees!!  Terrible, but between all the rain and Kev's schedule, it just took a while to get done.
Turner began soccer last night and didnt complain once!!  He isn't a big fan of being hot and sweaty, but he worked hard and seemed to enjoy himself.  Maddie had some friends from school there to play with, and Harper was fussy.  Thankfully my parents swung by and took her home.  She normally enjoys the outside, but hasn't been at her best the past few days.
Which brings me to the "sickness" part of post.  Other than her tummy issues at the beginning, she has yet to be sick.  She began coughing a few days ago, hasn't taken her bottle as well, and ran a low grade fever.  I took her to the dr today and she has an upper respiratory infection.  Luckily her ears looked good and she wasn't wheezing.  Those were my main concerns.  Hoping it will pass soon and not get any worse.
Lastly, Maddie pulled out her fourth tooth tonight.  It was a family affair and quite gross.  She had it hanging sideways and decided it wasn't ready to come out.  She wouldn't let Boo Boo or I touch it.  After much convincing, she finally got it out and is anxiously awaiting a trip from the tooth fairy:)
Tomorrow we have soccer, gymnastics, and a get together with friends!!

Turner's First Day!

Turner had his first day at our Church's Preschool program yesterday and he had a good day!  I also began working there and I loved being able to peak in on him.  He was excited about taking his lunch.  He is such a serious student and I am so proud of him.  I pray that he always enjoys school and learning.  They actually lay down at the end of the day, which he doesn't do at his other preschool.  I was worried about what he would do/think about it.  He was conked out when I picked him up!!  Looking forward to watching him grow this year and being there with him!

Milestones!

I have been in no hurry to start baby food with baby H.  I just want time to stand still and her stay little forever.  Kev kept telling me that wasn't fair to her, so last night we did it.  She had rice cereal with a spoon.  We had to give her cereal in her bottle for a few weeks when she was first born to try and stop her diarrhea.  But this was her first time since then and her first time with a spoon.  She didn't seem to mind it, but she wasn't loving it either.  She did though make a happy plate:)  Looking forward to starting veggies soon and my plan is to make her food myself.  We will see how it goes!
Turner begins one of his schools tomorrow so next post will be all about him!!

Harper's Check Up

This girl is a mess!  We didn't get her 4 month shots until she was almost five months old.  Not intentionally,  it just worked out that way.  She weighs a whopping 16.2 lbs and is 26 1/4 inches long!  She is off the charts-never happened before in our house.  Maddie was always small and Turner right in the midde as a baby.  She is the cutest fattest baby we ever have seen:)  Not really the fattest, but she does have lots of rolls!

The doctor said she looked great and we should start baby food by the time she is six months.  He wasn't concerned that she STILL isn't rolling over.  She did it one time a week or so ago, but hasn't shown any interest since.  She was talking amd smiling up a storm the whole time....except the 5 seconds she screamed over her shots.  And that was it.  I loved on her and she was fine.  She wasn't as happy that night as she usually is, but she definitely handled her shots like a trooper.

Next week she turns five months old and I just can't believe it!  Her daddy was gone a lot this week with school and football and she just lights up when he comes home.  Pure sweetness!!  These are a few recent pics of our baby girl.

First Week of First Grade!

We have almost finished Maddie's first week of first grade!!!  It is taking us a minute to get back in a morning routine but I think we are going to have a great year.  Turner, Harper, and I walked Maddie to her room the first two days, but she has been on her own since then.

Her teacher seems great and she has several friends in her class.  I think it is going to be a busy year!  She is supposed to read every night, which I think she enjoys doing!  We read to the kids before bed and this week she has asked to read the last few pages of the book each night.  One of their favorite books has always been "My Lucky Day" and she reads it easily.  I am so proud of her and her reading and hope she continues to enjoy it.  I know she will also have spelling test each week, and other homework as well.

We are amazed it is already time for first grade, but are looking forward to the year!

Redbird's Exhibition!!

Last night was so much fun!  The girls are gearing up for their competition season and River City had an exhibition last night before the game.  The girls wore their new competition leo's with hair ribbon and everyone looked great.  Nonna, Da, Braden, Tyler,  Mimi, Boo Boo, Megs, David, and Aubry all came to support Maddie last night.  Kelly and her family also helped by buying tickets and coming to the game.  We got there at five and the girls rotated until about 6:45.  Maddie was able to do things on the tumble track, beam, and mat.  She had a great time and we had a lot of fun watching her.  It was also throwback night, so hotdogs and cokes were had by all for .50!!

We didn't watch a lot of the game.  The kids were too busy playing on the playground and playing baseball with other kids.  We don't spend a lot of time downtown, so it was fun to take the kids and we appreciated our family coming to support Maddie.  She has a few more months to prepare and then competitions begin in November.  Can't wait to see how she does:)

KY Lake 2013!

A few weeks back we went on our annual Ky trip.  What is normally a 3 hour trip took us 7!!!  One thing having 3 kids has taught us is sometimes we just have to go with the flow and not be in too big of a hurry.  All three did great on the ride, we just had to make a few stops which resulted in feeding a baby a few bottles.  As much as Harper spits up it is just easier to feed her out of the car and give her tummy a chance to settle.  We made it in time for the kids to swim a bit and then had dinner at the lodge.

We spent a lot of time at the pool and had a great time at Patti's.  One big difference this year was the horse rides.  We were so impressed last summer with Turner and his eagerness to ride a horse.  He isn't much of an animal lover and this floored all of us.  Well, this year he was more like the Turner we know:)  He cried, didn't want to do it once we got there, but I still managed to snap a few pictures of him sitting on the horse.  The kids love this Kentucky trip as much as anything, and it is such a blessing for Mimi and Boo Boo to take us every year!!  We appreciate it so much, especially knowing how much the kids love it.  It is comparable to Disney World to them.

Harper was a complete angel the entire time.  I honestly don't remember if she cried once.  I do remember when Turner was a baby being so worried that he was disturbing people in the rooms next to us.  He was always a terrible sleeper and would cry on and off throughout the night.  Harper slept in her little rocker next to me and would just talk when she woke up.  I would fix her a bottle, feed her, and she went right back to sleep.  Maddie and Turner went to sleep pretty easily and slept through the night fine as well.  I think it was the first vacation with a baby where I didn't come home exhausted.  We all seemed to get enough rest and it was fun for the whole family.

The trip home didn't take nearly as long as it did getting there!!  We always enjoy this little weekend get away and this year was no exception!
